Since almost nobody can agree on what the term "new-wave" actually
encompasses; the entire body of a top 100 would be moot. I personally would
exclude almost anything made after 1982. It would be quite a project, but
we could do something like that here. It's not like anything else is
happening in this group. Another problem is that you have a lot of
regional acts in new-wave proper. Watcha think?

Ok, I tried to respond before, but I got an error.
Anyway. This is what I'm getting at.
I want a list of the BEST songs from each of the years, say from 1980
to 1987. Not just the most popular.
For example, here are the top 5 from a top 100 list of 1982.
http://80sxchange.com/80s_charts/1982.htm
*1 PHYSICAL, Olivia Newton-John (MCA) (#1, Nov 1981)
*2 EYE OF THE TIGER, Survivor (Scotti Brothers) (#1, July)
*3 I LOVE ROCK 'N' ROLL, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (Boardwalk)
(#1, March)*4 EBONY AND IVORY, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder
(Columbia) (#1, May)
*5 CENTERFOLD, The J. Geils Band (EMI-America) (#1, Feb)
Now some people consider "Senses Working Overtime" by XTC to be one of
the best songs of all time. And yet it's not on the top 100 most
popular.
So, is there a critic's site or a rock n roll history site that might
list some of the best songs of particular years.
Or perhaps I should poll here.
What were the best songs of ...
1980
1981
1982
1983
1984
1985
1986
1987
...
vol
Don't know about regional, but everyone definitlye has their own tastes.
"What's new wave?" is probably a good place to start.
I'd go about 1979 'til 1987 or so. But somewhere in the New Wave turned to
pop...
